The cost of a boat license in NSW 

The cost of procuring a boat license in NSW varies depending on the age and the license tenure. The license tenure can be of 1, 3, 5 or 10 years. Individuals between 12 years to 16 years of age enjoy a 50% concession in the license fee. The license cost for different tenure is as given below:

Cost of boat license for 1 Year is:

  • $63 for people above 16 years
  • $32 for people under 16 years

A 3 year boat license in Sydney costs:

  • $169 for people above 16 years
  • $85 for people below 16 years

5 Year boat license in NSW and Sydney costs:

  • $266 for people above 16 years
  • 133 for people under 16 years

Cost of 10 year boat license in NSW and Sydney:

  • $475 for people above 16 years
  • $238 for people under 16 years

Further, you will need to appear for a General boat knowledge test, which costs $36. The general boat knowledge test has 2 groups, Pool A and Pool B. Pool A has 20 questions, and all need to be answered correctly to pass. Pool B comprise of 30 questions, of which 24 need to be answered correctly to pass.

Eligibility Criteria for getting a boat license in NSW

The person applying for the license must be above 12 years old. If the person is over 12 years and below 16 years, they will be chaperoned by someone over 16 years when driving at 18 km/hr or above. An individual with a boat license cannot drive beyond 36 km/hr. 18 km/hr is the limit while towing a fellow skier or tuber.
