About Coxswain Grade 2

 

It is the basic qualification to get a certificate of competency. It can allow you to get employment in any Australian territory or state. The Coxswains course allows for commanding on commercial level marine vessels, which are:

  • Made for unlimited propulsion power, especially for outboard engines, or have power up to 10kW (Kilowatt) for inboard engines.

  • Not meant for transporting passengers or operating.

  • Going to travel in sheltered water.

  • Going to work as an auxiliary or tender vessel within 3 nm (Nautical Miles) of the main vessel. This is possible if the vessel travels within EEZ (Exclusive economic zones).

 

About Coxswain Grade 1

 

This certificate allows you to:

 

  • Command commercial vessels (including water taxis, fishing charters, and passenger cruise/ferry boats), which are about 12 meters in length).

  • Operate up to 15 nm (Nautical Miles) to the sea.

  • Operate a diesel-run engine with a capacity of up to 670 Horse Power (hp) or 500 kW (kilowatt).

 

Which Training Centre to Choose?

 

Several centres might offer Coxswain courses. However, the best in-line tutorials offer:

 

  • Full-time or part-time courses: you can complete the course at a stretch or do it in small blocks of time. Choose as per your convenience.

  • Get trained in water: most course providers have their campuses near the waterways. So, while walking out of the theory classes, you can get on board training.

  • Enjoy the opportunity to pay in convenient instalments: you get the chance to pay throughout the course.

  • Get registered for the job: many training centres get the names of their students registered after they graduate. So, if there is a vacancy, they would let the interested candidates know.
